May Favorites

Before starting this blog post as I usually would, it’s important I say that black lives matter, and the murders of innocent people by police need to stop. I have left links below on ways you can help (these are all links I have personally donated to or signed petitions on). The time for change is now, and I hope you are able to speak up and support BLM in any way you can.

Hey! Welcome to Jenna’s Day. A place where I, Jenna, talk about whatever I want. Today’s post is coming a little late, but it’s the fifth post in my Monthly Favorites series (which seem to be the only posts I am determined to continue with no matter what these times are!).

I cannot believe May is already over! If I’m being honest, it has been somewhat hard to come up with favorites this month. I have been working from home and making most of my meals and staying inside for about 2 months now, so I’m not exactly experiencing new things all the time. With that being said, I want to be authentic and only include things that are truly things I’ve been loving in these trying times. It’s the little things, after all!

Food & Drink

First up this month is Costco’s Almond Butter (linked here). I love this stuff. It’s super creamy and smooth and it’s made in a peanut free facility! It comes in a giant jar and has literally one ingredient: almonds. This is the best almond butter I’ve ever tasted and the price, size, and peanut free-ness just makes this a new fav for me. I love putting this on english muffins, waffles, toast, and with jelly for an almond butter and jelly sandwich.

It is good.

The second item in this category this month is the Califa Farms Almondmilk Vanilla Creamer.  I just recently ran out of this stuff and I already miss it so much. We just started making coffee at home (new fav coming up!), and this creamer is amazing. It’s very low in both sugar and calories and contains relatively clean ingredients. I usually get mine at my local Target and really love having this new addition in my coffee in the mornings.

Makeup & Beauty

The first item in this category this month is the elf Sheer Tint Finishing Powder. This powder is very light and has a little bit of coverage. It comes in a compact with a mirror and a puff to apply it, and as I’ve said in the past, elf is a great drugstore-priced, cruelty-free brand. I love the way this feels on my skin, and it’s just lightweight enough that it’s perfect for the summer months coming up. I wear the shade Fair/Light, but the sheerness of this sort of blends into my skin to make it feel like… my skin, but better. I use this especially under my eyes and t-zone area.

only $6?! what a steal!

The second item in this category are the Holo Taco nail polishes. Holo Taco is a brand by one of my favorite YouTubers, Simply Nailological, A.K.A. Cristine. She has an amazing quality, vegan, and cruelty-free nail polish brand inspired by all things holographic. Nate bought me a few sets in the past and especially during this quarantine, I have been doing my own nails with these colors and top/base coats almost exclusively. Not only does it last a long time, but most shades usually only need a single coat. I will link the site here.

Home Decor & Products

I sort of alluded to the fav in this category this month above, but Nate and I have been working from home for about two months now and making coffee in the mornings. We purchased a Keurig K-Mini and have been loving the little one-pot K-cups. We also purchased the reusable K-cups so we can use our own ground coffee to make one cup at a time (wayyy more environmentally-friendly this way too). I love this little machine – I love the color, the size and the price. We bought the mini in blue and it’s a perfect fit in our kitchen. It hardly takes up any space and it’s super easy to refill the water for each cup. For better or worse, I have definitely become more of a coffee person and think this was the perfect addition to our self-isolation/quarantine life.

Clothing & Accessories

I don’t know about you, but I have had a serious problem with online shopping during this quarantine time. I have bought several pieces and shoes from American Eagle and Amazon. My favorite few things from American Eagle are these shoes (linked here and pictured below). They are super comfortable and vegan! I love them for summer and bought them in two colors: cheetah and rainbow pride pair (looking back at my old favorites posts, I think I need a shoe intervention). These are perfect for work and for regular daily life – I’m obsessed.

I also love this striped top from American Eagle. It’s soft and flowy and stretchy and just all the good things a top can be. I love the relaxed fit and the fabric with jeans and sandals. It’s super cute.

I also picked up a few dresses from Amazon that I love for the summer coming up (pictures below and linked here as well). They’re pretty oversized and flowy and have pockets! I bought this same style in two colors, blue and green, and I can’t wait to wear these to the beach when everything opens up again. For now, I will wear these on my couch with the windows open for a summer at home.

I got this green one and a blue one just like it!
Entertainment

I have been attempting to better myself during this time and I have been failing. I say I want to read more and learn more and take classes, but instead I am watching TV. So, here is my true honest favorite for the month: Disney+. Do yourself a favor and get this streaming service. Nate and I watch this literally everyday. We have been watching old Disney channel classics like Lizzie McGuire (Nate had never seen it!!!) and Phineas and Ferb. I also love the original content about the Disney parks and Imagineering. They have all the shorts, the old Disney channel original movies, every episode of the Simpsons (Nate is ecstatic), Marvel, Star Wars, and a ton more, so we can always find something to watch. I should probably not be such a couch potato during this time and try to learn something but… better luck next month! 😉

And that’s it! My May favorites. I still can’t believe we are in June already. 2020 just keeps getting crazier. Let’s hope we all get out of this soon and remember we are all in this together. Spread love, not hate, and together we can make a change.
